Highlight of the Week

It's pretty sad when the highlight of your week is a trip to the dentist.  I broke a tooth and need a crown.  I so didn't want to get out of the chair.

Questions

There are two questions that the kids ask me almost every week.  Question 1:  Are you married?  Question 2:  Are you mexican?  For the last six years, without fail, I'm always asked these questions.  Time for some new questions, don't you think?  How about these?  Do you think the Democrats will lose control of the house and senate in this fall's election?  Do you think slurping your soup is rude or a respectful sign of enjoyment?  The Dodgers are going to blow it this year, right?  Why are you so short?  Is that your real hair or a wig?  Why does your eye twitch like that?  Why are you ignoring me?

American Idol

I miss blogging about American Idol.  The season has been pretty much a yawn, with the exception of Crystal and Lee.  Two amazing singers.  I have to give my vote to Lee.  He really has been strong the last few weeks.  Last night's performance was simply amazing.  I can't wait to buy his CD.  Vote Lee!

The Cough List

So today during lunch a fifth grader handed me a list of names (with checks next to some of the names) of his classmates who "fake coughed" while he was reading.  The checks indicated multiple coughs.  I'm wondering what I should do with this list.  What do you think?

Back on Track

So we're back on track.  Yay???  Today was a pretty calm day for the most part.  Hopefully my pretaped plea for peace will resonate with the kids.  Can we all just get along?  Lili and I had interesting conversations with a parent who insisted that the teleparent message stated school started back on April 29.  Ummm, no.  She "couldn't" get her kid to school today and she wanted me to excuse the absence.  Ummm, no.  Yesterday I checked out the Festival of Books at UCLA.  There were a billion people there.  The weather was perfect.  I was about four feet or so away from Buzz Aldrin.  He had just finished speaking and security was taking him to his golf cart when they passed right by me.  Pretty exciting.  Let us all hope for a peaceful and productive end of the school year.

Time Flies When You Don't Want It To :(

I can't believe how fast these last three weeks have flown by.  I'm not looking forward to going to work on Monday.  Maybe it's time for a new line of work.  I guess I'll spend my last day of vacation enjoying the Festival of Books at UCLA.  It should be a fun day!

I also LOVE vacations!

This first week of vacation has flown by.  I've enjoyed every minute of it.  I've been catching up on sleep and tv.  The Tudors are back on Sunday!  Glee is back on Tuesday!  I've done some shopping.  I've been on Youtube a lot.  Love Youtube.  I'm very disappointed that the Dodgers lost their first two games of the season.  Oh well.  Happy that baseball season has started up.  I love waking up in the morning and having no plans for the day.  Not sure what I'm going to do today.  I know I have to go to the cleaners and get coffee.  Next week I'll start doing some school work.  I have TONS of school work to do.  Need to work on attendance, look at data, and start planning out the last trimester.  I'm trying not to think past the third trimester.  Next year is going to be a nightmare.  Not sure how I'm going to do everything that needs to get done.  Not sure how I'm going to do my job and two other jobs.  I guess some things just won't get done.  I guess I need to be ok with that.  I'm still hoping that things will get better and next year won't be so bad.  We'll see.

I LOVE Youtube!

Happy Vacation

I'm so not doing a good job with the posting.  Guess I'm a bit too tired and a bit too disinterested lately.  Who knows, maybe after the vacation I'll get back into it.  Anway, I hope everyone has a great vacation!

Arne Duncan Explains Obama's Proposed Education Reforms

No Child Left Behind is being "left behind"

Obama is proposing sweeping education reforms.  Say bye bye to No Child Left Behind.  Will Obama's proposal get an A or is it just a revamped version of Bush's attempt at education reform?  Read the story at the Huffington Post

Long Time No Blog

Wow...I think this is the longest I've ever gone without blogging.  Guess I just haven't been in the mood or maybe I don't really have anything to say.  Probably both.  Good news today...the President is going to propose a major overhaul to the No Child Left Behind law which is being referred to by its old name, Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).  Looks like AYP maybe replaced with a more realistic accountability system.  We shall see.  You can read about some of the proposed changes by clicking here
